why?
Laminating fuses paper between sheets of PET or polypropylene film, typically 3 to 10 mils thick — a plastic envelope far more durable than the paper it protects. Microbes can only attack exposed paper edges, so a laminated sheet emerges from a pile essentially intact, and any breakdown that does occur just sheds microplastic. The plastic-to-paper bond also makes lamination unwelcome in the paper-recycling stream.
